Our opinion is that the transport industry needs to move more towards a multi modal basis with UX at the centre of all developments.

At last week’s #TTGlobal Transport, Ticketing and Passenger Information event, discussion was around the future use of technology to transform passenger experience of travel across the globe.

MP Claire Perry’s speech focused on the Department of Transport’s intention to make smart ticketing a mandatory requirement for new and renewing franchises.  This highlights that there are still service providers within the industry with work to do, whilst others speed into the future developing apps for wearable technology such as smart watches, and optimising data mining so that passenger service can be improved via better journey and ticket information - just one feature of the technology used to deliver and enhance passenger experience and cut operation costs.

Spider Online Managing Director John Campbell thoroughly enjoyed debating ‘What’s next?’ with industry peers in London.

Shard, London by John CampbellOur opinion is that the transport industry needs to move more towards a multi modal basis with UX at the centre of all developments. This will involve smart card integrating more with mtickets. Ticketing will in turn integrate more with real-time travel information and journey planning. Further co-operation at multiple passenger transport executive (PTE) at national and regional government level is required, and /or with transport industry operators. This will result in one singular, customer focussed platform instead of the current 57 varieties available to the travelling public.
