Trading Standards do sterling work across a wide range of different issues: from fake goods to e-crime, loan sharks to malicious doorstep callers and many others.  The job of building their new gateway site was won by Spider Online after a competitive tender and presentations.

There are several key elements to the site. First, is it had to be the aforementioned gateway – a place where citizens could find not just Trading Standards departments in their council area but also their nearest Citizens’ Advice Bureau or Business Gateway team.  Secondly, there is an important educational aspect to the site, so the public can find relevant information without taking up the valuable time of Trading Standards staff when they don’t need to.  Thirdly, there is a poll facility that allows government to consult on topical issues (such as credit unions) and use the information received to inform future thinking and strategy. Finally, and most important in this day and age, the site had to be responsive and fully integrated with social media.

Spider was involved with every aspect of the project, from the initial creative input through the design, coding and build to the final testing and roll-out.  The end result is a functional, visually pleasing and increasingly well-used site with which the client is delighted.
