We’re looking for an experienced Drupal Developer to join the Spider team. We deliver digital projects for a range of established brands and organisations, across both web and mobile. The role offers exposure to varied work, practical problem-solving, and a team that values clear communication and doing things properly.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Drupal websites and applications — custom modules, themes, content models, and configuration management
- Develop custom PHP modules to integrate Drupal with third-party services — payment providers, mapping APIs, transit feeds, etc.
- Contribute to non-Drupal projects when needed (WordPress, Angular, Next.js, Laravel)
Required Skills & Experience
Drupal & PHP
- PHP — modern OOP, dependency injection, working with Composer
- Drupal 9+ experience — custom module development, hooks, services, plugins, entities, form API, render arrays
- Comfortable with Drush, configuration management, update hooks, and the Drupal deployment lifecycle
- Understanding of Drupal’s permissions, caching layers, and performance considerations
Frontend
- JavaScript fundamentals
- An understanding of web accessibility (WCAG)
Tooling & Workflow
- Git in a team context — branching strategies, code review, merge requests
- Comfortable working in container-based local development (Lando or similar)
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Frontend frameworks — Angular (TypeScript) or Next.js
- Laravel
- WordPress
- Testing — PHPUnit, PHPStan, browser testing (Playwright)
- Search — Solr, Search API tuning
- Payment integration — Braintree, Stripe, GoCardless SDKs
- Performance work — caching strategies, query optimisation
